Product Spotlight: DigiTech JamMan Solo HD

This month, let’s take a closer look at the JamMan Solo HD Stereo Looper pedal, one of the more capable compact looper pedals on the market that appeals to guitarists, multi-instrumentalists, and solo performers alike. Dive in with us as we explore all its features and capabilities!
The JamMan Solo HD is built around a powerful stereo looper engine with high-definition audio quality, thanks to 24-bit A/D/A conversion and a 44.1 kHz sample rate that delivers clear, natural-sounding loops suited for guitar, bass, keys, vocals, and more. Internally, it provides 35 minutes of loop memory across up to 200 internal loop slots, with each loop stored in high-quality WAV format. For users who need even more recording capacity, an optional MicroSD/SDHC card (up to 32 GB) can dramatically expand storage to over 32 hours of loops. This combination of internal memory and expandable storage gives players serious flexibility for practice, composition, and performance.
In addition to loop length and storage, the Solo HD is packed with features that enhance its creative potential. It supports tempo control with tap tempo, time stretching (changing loop tempo without altering pitch), reverse playback, and multiple selectable stop modes, all of which make it more musically versatile than basic loopers.
There are also built-in rhythm guide patterns and even 10 mastered drum tracks from Pat Mastelotto (of King Crimson) to play along with right out of the box. These are great for sketching ideas or jamming without a band. The pedal also includes stereo inputs and outputs, an 1/8″ auxiliary input for external audio sources, and USB connectivity for transferring loops and managing libraries via free JamManager HD software on a computer.
The JamSync feature allows multiple JamMan devices to be linked together with tight synchronization, enabling more complex multi-track looping setups. You can also add an optional FS3X footswitch for hands-free control over loop functions like memory selection and stop/clear, which is especially handy on stage.

Players tend to appreciate the Solo HD because it balances professional-level features in a compact pedal format. It’s robust enough for performance, featuring stereo operation, glitch-free time stretching, and substantial loop memory, yet it remains approachable enough for everyday practice and songwriting.

Vintage Pedal Spotlight: DOD Stereo Chorus FX65

The DOD FX65 Stereo Chorus is a classic guitar effects pedal first introduced in the mid-1980s as an upgrade to DOD’s earlier FX60 chorus unit. It stayed in production from around 1985 through 1997, with a couple of circuit revisions and cosmetic changes over the years.
What set it apart at the time was its analog bucket-brigade (BBD) chorus circuit, built around the MN3007 chip, which delivered smooth and musical modulation. The pedal’s three intuitive controls—Speed, Delay Time, and Depth—gave players easy control over their chorus effect, from subtle shimmer to richer, warble-rich tones. Its stereo outputs helped create a wide, immersive soundstage when used with two amps or stereo setups.
Players quickly embraced the FX65 for its warm, organic analog sound and versatility. Unlike some chorus pedals that can sound bright or brittle, the FX65’s analog circuitry produced a lush, musical modulation that complemented a wide range of styles, including clean rhythm parts and ambient, dream-like textures. Many guitarists liked how the Delay Time control added extra shaping options not found on simpler chorus pedals, letting them dial in unique textures and even occasional flanger-esque tones at certain settings.
Part of what makes the FX65 “cool” beyond its sonic character, is its historical spot in pedal culture and humble reputation among players. Though it was an affordable pedal in its day, many musicians found it punching above its price class, offering rich modulation that “opened up” their tone in ways that more expensive pedals couldn’t always match.
Legendary artists that use / used the DOD FX65:
– Tony Iommi – Black Sabbath
– Brian “Head” Welch – Korn
– John Frusciante – Red Hot Chile Peppers
– Ryan Adams
– Steven Severin – Siouxsie & The Banshees
– Noel Hogan – The Cranberries
– Joey Howard – Paramore
